When I was ready to leave [[underlined in red]]E.H. Hooker[[/underlined in red]] got me at 'phone and kept me in consultation for about 3/4 hour so I missed my train. Went to University Club and took supper there and missed next train so I had to get home in Subway at 8[[underlined]]45[[/underlined]] P.M. crowded stuffy car I feel feverish and very tired and generally very much disgusted with everything and tried to sleep it out.
[[underlined]]December 24.[[/underlined]] Good night but still feel tired. stayed here. Spent all morning in lab. with Frank*
[[margin]]*Frank was young chemist recently engaged[[margin]] summing up experiments as to keeping qualities of liquid A. Am [[underlined in red]]disgusted with that lazy pretentious Thurlow.[[/underlined in red]] I feel generally downcast. Slept all afternoon. In evening came letter from Germany and copy of[[underlined in red]]Protest of Raschig [[/underlined in red]] to my base patent.  Lots of more and more work and slow progress if [[underlined in red]]any on commercial[[/underlined in red]]

Christmas. Dec.25.1910. Feel rested spent all morning writing answer to [[Red underline]]Raschig[[/red underline]] and article for electrical [[strikethrough]]paper.[[/strikethrough]] journal. Remained at home all day.

[[underlined in red]]George[[/underlined in red]]and [[underlined in red]]Nina[[underlined in red]] were out to party at [[underlined in red]]Ewings[[/underlined in red]]. and came back shortly before midnight. [[underlined in red]]George was the only boy who had no tuxedo suit.[[/underlined in red]] -- I like it better this way than if he was the only one who [[underlined]]had[[/underlined]] a tuxedo suit. Silly snobish extravagant expenses of so many who can ill afford it.
