Dec 22/ Up early for duty [[red underline]] Symposium on patent [[/red underlined]] reform. Walter Edmonds of New York the well known patent lawyer of New York read an address in which he lauded the french patent system and recommended it.  I easily annuled the effect with my arguments and showed that he was not acquainted [[practically?]] with the evil effects of the french system.  I was supported in my views by almost everybody present.

and received considerable applause. Even Edmonds said he was prepared to modify his point of view. This was quite a little success for me when I crossed swords with a well known and able lawyer.
