Exit Cheyenne

Lifting above the graceful grassy dunes
We leave the basin, sighting hills beyond
Then far to starboard, looming white and gray
(plaine)
First of the Rockies, Jutting from the
Buttes are about us and the Remount Ranch
Hidden by evergreens, and sheep cropped hills
Statue of Lincoln, gravely staring south
Long shadows streaking from the scattered trees
Down through the canyon, [[strikethrough]] in twilight again [[/strikethrough]] form a twilight zone.
Opening to a valley and the town
Of Laramie, far out in miniature
Dwarfed by the western miles, then down we go
Back to the modern, crowded city ways
Bits of the west, the ancient and the new.
