Bar 29.608. Ther. 35. Max. 39. Min. 30 SE gale with furious squalls increases toward noon and the barom. falls to 29.400. This is the most severe that we have yet experienced here. About noon bar. goes to 29.350 and then the wind moderates a little and the bar rises. wind closes fresh S half clear.

Morning cloudy with snow squalls from S.W. later clears off nearly with light S wind Ther. 34. Bar. 29.683. Toward noon 29.900. Go to find the ledge of rock reported by Mr. Bailey. Find it & fix its position. Afternoon telemeter observations on Amaknak. P.M visit tide guage which is still out of order. Wind gets round to S.E. then calm & freezing in [[the?]] [[small?]] Harbor. in evening, Bar. 30.032 32. 44
