Wind light S. Sky half cloudy - about 9 am as the tide rises and wind freshens a stream of ice cakes from Captain's Harbor poured into Iliuliuk Harbor through Amaknak Str. at the rate of 4 knots per hour. As an excellent illustration of the currents it may be mentioned that not a particle of it went out by the north entrance where the water backed up yet there was no eddy there and the only clear space was a small strip at the mouth of the creek & thence to the N entrance. The harbor of Iliuliuk had been perfectly free from ice but the low temperature caused the cakes to freeze together and at night a very thick & strong coat of ice covered the harbor.

a boat to the shore short of half a days labor. we devote the day to observations of equal altitudes from the vessel. succeeding very well.
