Jan 24. Here all day. Evening went for supper at University Club then Chemists Club. [[underline]] Perkin Medal Evening [[/underline]] for Gailey. He looked as dry as usually. Met [[underline]] Dr. Westson. [[/underline]] Met also [[underline]] [[Svenarten?]] [[/underline]] who tells me [[underline]] Ewing [[/underline]] is a pigheaded man who would give much trouble if appointed as Commissioner of patents. He thinks Moore should remain and asks me to explain matters to [[underline]] Inventors Guild [[/underline]]

[[strikethrough]] Jan [[/strikethrough]] Hasslacher and Dubois have met [[underline]] Dyer [[/underline]] and [[underline]] Kirk Brown [[/underline]] and came to a deadlock on question of royalty. They want to pay royalty only on active material, not on filler. New meeting arranged for tomorrow.
Jan 25. I went to New York early. Went to see [[underline]] [[Svenarten?]] and arranged with him to write (he) to [[underline]] Commissioner Moore [[/underline]] to appoint [[intervention?]] for me and talk matters over in Washington.
Then had preliminary discussion of content with [[underline]] Hasslacher [[/underline]] and [[underline]] Dubois. [[/underline]] We all agree to [[strikethrough]] let [[/strikethrough]] let royalty be counted on active material
