There was a jostling crowd of all kind of people young old and very old to get admission when we arrived and inside the same jostling crowd scarcely a seat to be had.  Everybody drinking champagne and all this interrupted with the most extravagantly dressed adventurers Berlin can produce which is saying much.  [[underline in red]] I do not think anything of the kind could ever exist in New York or in any American city. [[/red underline]] In fact New York at its worst is a Sunday 
School performance to those 
large european cities.

We remained about one hour and were inopportuned repeatedly by some of these Walkiries who insisted of joining us.  But Jaeger knew how to shake them off. We left at 1:30 P. M. but Jaeger
tells me the thing keeps up until 4 and 5. AM. He tells me this is a Stock company organized about me one year ago and which in the first year has paid 40% dividends. They have tried to list the stock on the 'change but up till now have not succeeded in obtaining the necessary permission for such a brazen
display of cynicism.
Feb 19.  Went out to buy about 100 Mks of underwear socks etc then went to Echner about noon time.
