Went out for long walk then took lunch at Café de la Monnaie  This is not an expensive restaurant; but I find that if I order a meal as I would in the U.S. specially with oysters my bill is at least as large if not larger.  [[vertical red line in left margin starts]] Everywhere same stupid sensuous faces; seeming to concentrate their full childish delights in lingering over a dinner.  Reminds me very much of children relishing lollypops! [[vertical red line ends here]]
What a more elevated, useful [[vertical red line in let margin starts here and goes to end of page]] and self respecting life ours in Yonkers appears to me.  How much more superior Celine appears above all the women I have met thus far.  Children here

Took afternoon train to Ghent. Right away feel one spirit lower on the descending ladder. Same stupid self satisfied faces, and slouchy countenance of formerly. Recognize two or three much oldened persons.
