I waited and waited until it was [[strikethrough]] midnight then began [[/strikethrough]] quite late and began to become anxious something had happened to them felt inclined to start down the trail to the carry but feared to get lost.  [[strikethrough]] As [[/strikethrough]] I read, all the books I could lay hand on. [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] as it was impossible for me to sleep Sat [[strikethrough]] down [[/strikethrough]] out until it became too cold. Then covered myself with two blankets and waited till daybreak.
Aug 15  then about 4:30 AM I went to sleep in my bunk and slept till 10:30  AM.   Perhaps they will arrive about noon So I waited.  Then ate some cold lunch and went off down the trail. At the carry

I was considerably relieved when the son of Mr. Scarett told me George had phoned that they would be back to night.  He told me they had left with the boat to Raquette but had not come back.  I took George's Canoe and went out paddling along Marion River.  Fierce hot sun in my face.  After about three hours paddling, came back in leaving the canoe plunged overboard [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] and had an involuntary swim. Fortunately it was very warm weather.  Kept on marching briskly until I entered our camp which took about 1/2 hour. -
Shortly afterwards I heard a call.  It was George.  I was delighted to hear him.  He told me that his delay was entirely involuntary.  The return
