Dec 15.  Away early for Federal Court in Brooklyn. [[red underline]] McElroy [[/red underline]] on direct examination explained Story's patent. Good for us. tried to overlook statement as to pure phenol but

judge asked some explanations which brought out the facts. Then afterwards long tedious enunciation of most of patents in suit. followed each time by hypothetical questions preceded by "if." and answered by "assuming" etc.  He played so well in our hand that [[red underline]] Neave [[/red underline]] simply [[red underline]] kept [[/red underline]] smiling and did not ever object altho' he had plenty of chance to do so.

Made [[red underline]] McElroy [[red underline]] admit he did not know anything about condensation products. never had experimented with them except once in an "amateurish way" and had "thrown the stuff away" had no experience with varnishes nor lacquers etc.  simply what he read.
