etc. Got information that he buys carbolic  acid from Mallincrodt. Feel very very tired of it all. Jones has seized some samples of Nikolas lacquer in his Brooklyn place.  Went alone for supper at Mouquin then to bed, but slept poorly
Dec 20.  Up early telephoning then to office then to see Rowley 
He tells me they have never sold cristalline carbolic acid to Nikolas but crude 95% and this only in sample

lots.  He says he is buyer of amylacetate. Went to Mallincrodt's with [[Schleusser?]] they promise to write and let us know by wire whether Nikolas has bought phenol from them. [[red underline]] [[Hannon?]] [[/red underline]] is writing to Shaffer to investigate at Fuller & Fuller.

Went for lunch with [[red underline]] May [[/red underline]] at McAlpin hotel. Tried to take a nap but was prevented from doing so on account of continuous hammering on floor above. At 5:30 met [[red underline]] Mr ^[[William]] Hard [[/red underline]] of [[red underline]] Everybody's magazine [[/red underline]] at University Club. He interrogated me about my work and also about [[red underline]] our patent system[[/red underline]] To bed about 12. slept well
