July 4. Fine cool weather and cloudy Very little noise on account of firecrackers. Habit seems to be dying out. Morning went out with car to see [[red underline]] Nina on Suffrage Float [[/red underline]] with other girls her age representing the woman-suffrage states in procession. Everything very orderly.
Afternoon all drove to Lafayette Boulevard to see [[red underline]] competition of flying machines [[/red underline]] flying from Governor's Island to Spuyten Duyvil and back. Later joined Dr. Edward [[red underline]] Weston [[/red underline]] at Claremont with his wife, son, daughter in law and two grandchildren. Celine joined me there. We then all drove to Snug Rock and with Nina I invited them for supper at Longue Vue.- [[red underline]] George is away [[/red underline]] at Buchanan's Camp in the Adirondacks

(Sunday) July 5. 1914 Laurence here all day bakelizing the test coils for Pittsfield. [[red underline]] De Muth [[/red underline]] and his manager came here in the morning to talk about [[red underline]] future policy. [[/red underline]] - Cleaned up my correspondence on talking machine.
Afternoon got visit of the whole [[red underline]] de Vecchi family. [[/red underline]] Continued nice and cool weather unusual for this period of the year.
July 6. Told to [[red underline]] Hamlin [[/red underline]] that in case he can find a [[red underline]] better place he should not hesitate accepting it. and [[/red underline]] in such a case I would cancel his contract 
Went to New York went to bank for a [[red underline]] $6000 letter of Credit [[/red underline]] for my ^ [[insertion]] Japan [[/insertion]] trip. Mr. Ward prepared the letter. Then went to Rogers Peet Co to buy a Norfolk suit. Then went to Mr. Porter to give verbal report. then to Brooklyn for general inspection and conference and for laying out program during my absence. Remained there to nearly seven PM
