July 24. Spent most of day reading Lafcadio Hearn's "Japan" - an interpretation.. Japanese [[strikethrough]] mus [[/strikethrough]] orchestra - (string instruments) during meals in dining room plays european and American airs. mostly Grand-Opera. Interpretation seems timid rather slow, makes about same effect as if
