Very hot in sun, but refreshingly cool everywhere in shade or indoors probably on account of continuous trade winds. Went for a walk thru the hot streets. Visited old Palace of the King (Kalikuana)? which is now executive building. See photo. also the judiciary building in front where court is held. Statue of [[strikethrough]] Kamehaha [[/strikethrough]] Kamemaha (bronze with guilt mantle) in front. (See photo) went inside building which is run simply and wide open. No soldiers nor policeman. One of the attendants at door in white civil suit is a Kanaka of splendid profile which seems almost identical to that of the statue of Kamaheha standing in front of building. He speaks excellent English. serious

intelligent expression. [[strikethrough]] I notice [[/strikethrough]] Among many bills posted on frame near entrance see some printed translations in Kanaka. They all begin with "Hoolala." which seems to mean "notice" or "Attention. It is nicely cool inside this open building altho' fiercely hot in sun outside
Also notice some printed translations in Portugese. A big Banyan tree, of which crown seems at least 100-120 feet is very striking with its adventive roots dropping perpendicular towards ground until they touch and then grow up into so many thick supporting pillars.
Excellent shade trees. Seems to be used also for general storehouse or shed for storing, spades, ladders, rakes etc. Under tree note another little Buick-car similar to own old "donkey." model 30.
