hot work. Vague land line appears. One fisherboat ^[[sampan]] unusual construction Several japanese fisherman, most of them stark naked and a coolie basket-hat. Brown skinned. Pulling at oars lustily, standing. On prow a man throw something ahead of him - a net? and then they start rowing and repeat the operations. [[red underline]] Funny boats [[/red underline]] with funny [red underline]] square sails [[/red underline]] as broad on top as below. Rocky hilly shore, green and twisted pine-trees. More sailing vessels everywhere 
We pass [[strikethrough]] two [[/strikethrough]] ^[[several]] forts situated near navigation channel and scarcely above level of water. On the port side I notice several men of war all under steam. [[red underline]] Beautiful bay. [[/red underline]] Hundreds of little sails everywhere. All [[red underline]] Sampans [[/red underline]] with a [[red underline]] sail like a [[strikethrough]] curtain [[/strikethrough]] roller curtain. [[/red underline]] Fishermen half or entirely naked. Funny shape of sampans, with long rudders wriggled by one man. Their funny straw hats with peak on top. shade for sun and rain
