Oct 4 1914 (Sunday) A quiet mild peaceful day. Most of the day spent in reading [[red underline]] war news [[/red underline]] and articles referring to the war. Am much impressed with reading a [[red underline]] newspaper of Antwerp [[/red underline]] where after describing all the atrocities of war where thousands are being killed for no good reason whatever by people who personally have no grudge whatever against each other, [[red underline]] a whole column of printed matters is devoted to the [[/red underline]] story of murder and robbery of an old woman 80 years old, committed by a man who wanted to steal the earnings of that woman.

He is called an [[red underline]] "assassin" [[/red underline]] although he at least had a good reason for murder, and only murdered one victim for a well established
