I had some favors in my lap so put down my hands to keep them from falling when I got up. I turned, bowed, and smiled slightly.
H. said: "Its very nice up here" "Yes" I said "but I suppose it is still nicer downstairs"
I looked at him a moment he was looking at me, and gave a little laugh as much as to say "you know more than I though." He is not handsome, but he has something decidedly nice in his face.
After a few more words, he shook hands with Elsa, bowed to me and left.
He went down into the hall, and off on one of the piazzas with a girl.
We never tired of looking at the

people, and several other gentlemen came up and spoke to me. At 3.45 almost everyone had gone, so I went up , and danced around the hall by myself until the music stopped, the hum of the conversation died away, and the hall and whole whole house was deserted. Not till then did I retire, and after all the excitements of the night finally fell asleep to dream of music and people, and all sorts of good things to eat.
I awoke at 9 for half an hour, and then did not wake again until half past eleven.
Thursday I went bathing and Elsa went away right after lunch. She is going to stay with Mr. Winthrop
