Mrs. Peale went this evening to see Dr. Shannan about her thumb having a touch of the Eracipiless. Mary & the grandchildren went with her 
They say that there is great rejoicing in Phila. on account of the surrender of Fort Hudson. The principal forts near Charleston have been captured by our fleet.

There was a severe thunder storm during last night
[[underlined]] Thursday 16.[[/underlined]] I painted all the morning on N. 90 and worked all the afternoon in the garden planted another row of Celery &c.
Miss Campbell and Miss Morris accompanied by James Campbell & Governur Morris all on horseback. Mrs. Peale, Mary and Albert went to S. Haven late this afternoon got home at dark, bringing the inteligence of the Riot in New York being quelled. Lee got over into Virginnia without much loss to his army. 
Edward commenced cutting his wheat this morning two cradles and Ketchums Reaper and got in four loads before night.

[[underlined]] Friday 17.[[/underlined]] I painted all the morning on N. 90. Mary painted on her Raspberry piece. Edward and his hands have been all day in cleaning up the barn fixing hay ladders &c. As it has been raining all day nothing could be done out doors.

[[underlined]] Saturday 18.[[/underlined]] I sat to Mary all the morning, and worked in the garden in the afternoon.
Edward had all the wheat cut this morning and hawled it in before night.
Mrs Bengn. Pott, her Cousin from Chambersburg & Miss A. Vastern came this afternoon.

[[underlined]] Sunday 19 [[/underlined]] Mrs. Peale and Mary went this afternoon to Potte. in the carriage Mary went from Mr. Innis's to Mr. J. Bannans. Thomas Ennis took Mrs. Peale to brother Burds. They all came home at dusk including Tommy.
