at Cape May, she came direct in the carrs from Cape May to Phenix Ville [[strikethrough]] where her son is engaged at the [[/strikethrough]] Furnace [[strikethrough]] and from there she came to Potte.[[/strikethrough]] where her son is staying with his wife the daughter of Mr. Reaves he stays at Phex Vile. at night and goes to Phila. at 5. a.m. and attends to his business 233 Dock Street (where his father carried on business for many years.) and returns to P. Ve. at 7 P.M. she came to Potte. on Tuesday last 
Ed. went this morning to Potte. returned to dinner. Edward, Louisia, May & Burdie went to S. H. toward evening got the papers &c. the news is that Morris Island has surrendered.

[[underlined]] Friday 11. [[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the day on N. 91. Mrs. Peale, Mary and Mrs. Elleanora Jacobs went soon after breakefast to Potte. and got home at 1/2 past 7 oclock they left Eleanora in Potte. and brought down Miss Margarett Walker. Mary went to Howards Express Office and got the package of teeth that Mr. Franklin M. Dixon repaired for me. I mended a tin bucket &  pann.

[[underlined]] Saturday 12. [[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the day on N. 91. Edward took Margaret Walker to S. Haven to go up in the carrs. at noon.
[[underlined]] Sunday 13. [[/underlined]]  Brother George called this morning he was engaged to dine with Dr. Shannan, we had no other company. Mrs. Peale, Mary, Louisia & May rode out this afternoon. 
I labelled all the Dahlias during the day by hanging a number to each one which refers to a like number in my book, stating their colour. The number appears to be about 18 [[strikethrough]] colours [[/strikethrough]] varieties of colour.

[[underlined]] Monday 14. [[/underlined]] I sat to Mary this morning 2 hours, and worked in the garden the remainder of the day, cleaning the upper part & trimming the Raspberries & tying them to stakes &c. &c.

[[underlined]] Tuesday 15. [[/underlined]] I sat to Mary two hours, the remaining part of the day was spent in reading & preparing Apples for drying & attending to matters about the house &c.
