May 3. 1863.                   91.
 James Patterson came called to see me at noon he is on his way with his daughter Flora to see Eddy at New Haven at school. 
[[underlined]] Thursday 3. [[/underlined]] Mrs. Peale and Harriet went after breakefast, called at sister Harriets and out the Pottses found the old Lady very bad having had a severe fall injouring her head and back. Mrs. Hubbley was sent for as Elizabeth wanted her assistance in nursing the old lady. Mrs. Peale called to see the Miss Hubleys and then to see Sophonisba Peale &c. came home by dusk
I made a frame for Ch's. watermellon, but didnot go out all day, not feeling very bright.
[[underlined]] Friday 4th. [[/underlined]] soon after breakefast another fire occurred up the Ridge road producing a very black smoke I didnot go to it. and [[strikethrough]] in [[/strikethrough]] this afternoon another near germantown took place. I have not yet witnessed the operation of the steam Fire Engines.
  Mrs. Peale and I went this morning to see General Duncan & Anna, the Genl. is remarcable feeble and his faculties fast fading away, doesnot recollect anything five minutes  Anna has to be constantly with him, we dined there and then called to see Maria & Margaretta Peale and then called to see Mary Peale but she was out went over to see Howard Peale at his Photographic establishment in Arch St, found him very much engaged, we then returned home. Mrs. Dr. Shippen called to see us this afternoon.
[[underlined]] Saturday 5th. [[/underlined]] I commenced a small picture representing a large Bunch of Mallagar Grapes hanging on a wall and painted all day on it N 90.
  Mrs. Peale went to stay 2 or 3 days with Harriet Shippen while her Mother is going to see her son George [[strikethrough]] who is very sick [[/strikethrough]] at Dugless Ville on the Lancaster Road. 
got this evening some tins to paint fruit apon viz six Apples, one slice of Watermellon and a half of a Cantelope.
[[underlined]] Sunday 6. [[/underlined]] I remained at home all day until toward evening when Charles & I went to Coleman Sellers, found his children still sick with the Measels especially Jessie, stayed but a short time there.
[[underlined]] Monday 7. [[/underlined]] A most beautiful clear morning and very fresh air n w. And in the afternoon it clouded up. I painted all the morning, dead-coloured the watermellon Cantilope and six Apples. This afternoon begun to make a stretcher for my bunch of Grapes, but was called off to see
