December 6th 1863
Emerie has just finished whitewashing the end of the house and also the front of the kitchen, cleaned up a good deal of the lime rubbishe and scattered it over the corn ground in the meadow and begun to take down the scaffolding &c.
The carpenter has finished the lower floor and a partition in the tenants house and begun to make a porch there.
14°. calm, white frost, clear. 31°. calm w, clear. 24°. calm, clear.
[[underlined]] Tuesday 7.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 96. 
Edward has made new arrangements in baling hay, they now work under cover & when completed will be excellent. we have removed all the scaffold and begun to remove the plastering and other rubbish.

[[underlined]] Wednesday 8.[[/underlined]] I painted all day on N. 94 and finished it. Covered the handsome Rose on west side of porch. Jane Pott died yesterday funeral tomorrow at 2 oclock

[[underlined]] Thursday 9.[[/underlined]] Mrs. Peale and I went up to Potte. with Edward, who left us at Mr. Potts and returned home after getting the spring of the carriage mended, which broke just as we left home, he had to wrap a cord around it to take us up.
The funeral was very large the carriages were very numerous, she was buried in the old ground back of the new Public School House in Centre Street, the ground was given for a burial place by Mr. Potts Father when Potte. was laid out.
We returned to the house and and took up our quarters at Mr. Innis's next door.  Next day it snowed and turned to rain. saturday we took supper at Mr. Campbl's, he had just returned from Washington, we also called to see Mr. Snyders family and also Mrs. Fishers.
Sunday afternoon we went up to James Pattersons until Tuesday when we went to brother George's Made several visits in the neighbourhood, but it rained most of the time. Tuesday afternoon we had quite a storm of rain, hail, thunder & lightning, cleared off towards evening.
[[underlined]] Wednesday 16th.[[/underlined]] James Patterson brought us home in his 2 hors carriage, found the road rather rough but not muddy, he returned before dinner. We met Edward on the road, going up for us.
We found Louesia and all well & glad to see us.
