November 1864
[[underlined]] Saturday 5.[[/underlined]] I painted all the morning on N. 94 and 105. After dinner went to Mr. Dixon’s &c, returned much overcome by the walk. Towards evening company begun to assemble to see the Torch-light Processions and Fire Works. It was a grand display, the faint light of the early moon didnot diminish the brilliancy of the display, we were too far off to hear the speaches, there were 3 stands one at the back door of the state house and one at the S E corner of the square and on at the S. E. corner, the assemblage of people was immence in Independance Square.
The display of Fireworks was magnifficent, tholours  produced was superb, the red, blue and white was conspicious. We were kept up until half past eleven oclock, before we retired to rest.
Mr & Mrs. Tatham, Charles & Family besides our other relations and friends were here.

[[underlined]] Sunday 6.[[/underlined]] We have had no company today  Mary & Emma went to church and I read all day and my eyes are non the better for it. The exposure at the windows last evening gave a cold in my head &c.
[[underlined]] Monday 7.[[/underlined]] I painted all the morning on N. 94. got a note from Burd saying that May was not so well, that she now is failing rapidly and he thinks cannot live more than a few days.
Mary laid aside her painting and went to Holmesburg this afternoon and left a young women here sowing for her.
Eddy Patterson took Emma Patterson this evening to the opera.
Anna Sellers came this afternoon and says that Rembrandts widow is quite ill with imflamation of the lungs. her Father and Brother both died with consumption.

[[underlined]] Tuesday 8.[[/underlined]] Charles called for me this morning and went to the Pool of this ward for me to Vote was introduce to one of the committe of the ward, and after some conversation I was led to the window gave in my Vote (for Lincon & [[?]])
This afternoon Charles introduced me to Mr. Joseph Jeanes and went with him to the [[strikethrough]] E[[/strikethrough]] Athaenium and introduced me to the Librarian & to Mr. Barclay they entered me as a Visitor at all times I signed my name & residence & they hoped I would
