November 1864.
[[underlined]] Monday 21st. [[/underlined]] Mary came from Holmesburg this morning and went out again at 2 oclock. Miss Evans came with her to purchase some things for Burd.
The day has been so dark & rainy that I spent it in reading Charles came after his dinner and arranged to go to the funeral tomorrow.
Miss Sarah Levan & her nephew spent a part of the evening here, Eddy Patterson also & says that his mother came this evening, she stops at the Washington Hotil in chesnut St. Miss Levan describes the immence crowd to witness the opening of new Cathedrel on last sunday morning. Many of the tickets sold for $5.

[[double underlined]] Tuesday 22.[[/double underlined]] Edward and Louesia came from [[?]] Farm this morning and went to W. Phila. to her Fathers and Edward came here, she didnot know our arrangements not having received Marys letter in time. Edd. dined with us, Charles, Harriet, Albert & Clarra joined us, Matilda, Eddy, Margarett Walker, Miss Thorn ^ [[insertion]] and Miss Richards [[/insertion]] all went to the boat at Walnut St. got to [[strikethrough]] Burds [[/strikethrough]] Holmesburg about 3 oclock and the funeral took place at 4. The corpse was taken into the Church and the funeral services was performed by Revd. Morat & Mr. Beasly, very solem music &c.  The Corpse was interred on the north side of the church  On the way to the church our horses were a little unruly and broke on of the swingletrees, wed got into another Carriage  I found Burd very composed and well, Burdie was very glad to see me, she little knows the loss that she has being too young. 
Mrs. Mc.Burney was very much overcome when she got back and looks badly.
It was quite dark when we got into the carrs at the depot and they were very crowded, and was also the city carr on 6th street one of the traces broke which detained us a little while to have it repaired, our boarders had just got up from the supper table a warm cup of coffee was quite refreshing to me being chilled.

[[underlined]] Wednesday 23.[[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the morning on N. 107. was interupted by company viz. Edward, Louisia & Fanny, Burd, Dr. Mitchel, Miss Lewis, Matilda, Patterson, Miss Richards &c &c. Dr. Mitchel made a postmortem examination of May yesterday & found large abses on the bowels &c.
