[[underlined]] Thursday 24.[[/underlined]] This being [[underlined]] Thanks Given Day [[/underlined]] Mary I and Emma joined by Matilda went to the Germantown Depot. Met Charles & Harriet, Edward, Louisia & Fanny, A. E. Hubley, we all went in the steam carrs to Mr. Bennets in a splended house in Tulpohocken Street Germantown the grounds beautifully laid out with evergreen trees and quite a large garden back of the house, the rooms are handsomely furnished and covenient. we had a splended dinner and spent a very agreable and pleasant day with them. We returned in the Carrs and got home after dark time for supper. The servant says there was quite a number to see us, but didnot leave their cards.

[[underlined]] Friday 25.[[/underlined]] I painted the greater part of the morning on N. 107.  Franklin, Matilda, and Edward came this morn and Sarah Levan to bid us good bye as she was going home, Mary dined with Matilda and Edward dined with me, late this afternoon Mrs. Sarah Oglevie came to see us, she remained some time before Mary got home. I have now got the two pictures ready for his instructions tomorro if he comes.

[[underlined]] Saturday 26.[[/underlined]] Mr. Moran came this morning and gave me a lesson in Landscape Painting, I was much surprised at his manner of using the colours, I have always used the colours sparingley, but he in painting the skey emptyed the white tube, naples yellow, Ultra marine [[?]] [[?]] and other very freely, and after loading his brush put it on the canvass with great rapidity, and where he intended makeing clouds took the palate knife and removed the thick coat of paint and then dabbed the clouds with the large brush and touched up the light edges and then with the blender dabbed it all over and slightly retouched them & in like manner went over the hills &c. The effect when done is very fine. he uses very little oil or none the colours in the tubes are sufficiently thin. I then went over my skey of N. 106 producing something of the effect of N. 107, on which he put in a part of the middle ground and after he went, Mary went on with it and
