April 24. 1865.
Mary and I went to the private Exhibition of the Academy of the Fine Arts previous to the opening to the public, this evening.  There are some fine pictures there.

[[underlined]] Tuesday 25.[[/underlined]] I painted until Mr. Moran came [[left margin note]] [[?]] [[?]] [[/margin note]] on N 121.  Present Mrs. Hazelton, Mrs. Cristie, Anna Sellers, and Anna Peale.
I went home with Anna Sellars to Millbank, went in the street carrs a part of the way and the carriage took us to Mill Bank, stopping at Mr. John Sellers, was introduced to his two daughters, it surprized me to see such fine looking women, I expected to see half grown lades.
I found Nancy very much emaciated and and feeble.
[[underlined]] Wednesday 26.[[/underlined]]  Mr. John Sellers was to take Hanna Hill to her home in Dellaware County beyond Media, the county seat, I was invited to accompany them, we set off at 9 oclock and got there at 1/2 past 11 oclock, it is quite a hilly section of the country, beautifuly divercified and thickly settled, substantial houses and good farms, after dinner, we left at 3 oclock and at Media we took another road and got back before dark, Anna was very tired. Mr. [[blank space]] spent the evening there.  This evening we learned to Booth was shot.
[[underlined]] Thursday 27th.[[/underlined]]  Directly after breakefast their man James took me to the Railroad and got home just as our boarders were leaving the breakefast table, found all right here. I brough home some cut flowers for Mary & some chick-weed for Dick.
I painted all the morning on N. 121.  Mary went to the Academy.  This evening she went to hear Miss Dickens

[[underlined]] Friday 28[[/underlined]]  I have mingled up the last 3 days in this journal curiously, for I thought this was Thursday.
[[underlined]] Saturday 29th.[[/underlined]]  I painted all the morning on N 121. I was to have met Mary this afternoon at the Academy of Fine Arts, after leaving ^ [[insertion]] the [[/insertion]] Germanium she was to call for me, but I didnot feel smart enough to go, she was caught in a smart shower of rain before she got home.
Mr. Letell called this [[strikethrough]] afternoon[[/strikethrough]] morning, & Ed. Patterson. [[underlined]] North Carolia, surrender of Johnson and his whole army on the same terms granted to Lee. [[/underlined]] A dispatch from Gen. Grant dated Railegh 10 A.M. [[?]] 26, that Johnson has surrendered.  The forces in his command embracing all
