April 1865.
[[underline]]Wednesday 5 th. [[/underline]] I painted all the morning on N.119. Burd came this morning for a few minutes. I went to the Agricultural warehouse of Mess ? Landreth and purchased a pair of clippers to trim with, I lent it to Burd to trim his Raspberries with. Harriet called this morning for a few minutes. Mary varnished her Washington and several of my small pictures.
50°, calm n e lo 10 e. 70° sw lo 7  sw. 60°. s. clear.
[[underline]] Thursday 6. [[/underline]] I painted all the morning on N. 199.  Sent Mr.B. ^[[insertion]]J. [[/insertion]] Lesfsing my history of our family by his request last winter. Mary and I spent the evening at Mr. G.N. Tothams at a family gathering, spent a pleasant evening.

[[underline]] Friday 7 th. [[/underline]] I painted all the morning on N. 119. In the afternoon Mary and I went to see Mr. Hubley West Philadelphia, found him still confined to his room although much better than he has been, the imflamation of his eye has left since the operation of removing the cathuract.

[[underline]] Saturday 8. [[/underline]] I painted all the morning on N. 114. This afternoon Charles, Albert and I went to the Navy Yard where I have not been for several years was highly gratified with the visit, went on board of the Ironsides which is there for repairs, she has many bruises, some of the indentations are several inches deep, but no plates broken, saw several of the moniters but didnot go on board of them and several building I was much surprized to see the great thickness of the [[strikethrough]] vessels [[/strikethrough]] woodwork to be covered with iron. also I saw one of the blockad runners ; was surprised to see how sharp she was, enabling her to go through the water very hast, didnot notlearn her name. returned and took tea with Charles.

[[underline]] Sunday 9 [[/underline]] I have been in the house all day. Mr. & Mrs. Defrance, Miss Stoddard & Mrs Christie spent the evening here gave us fine sacred music [[?]]. late this evening the telegrafe says that Lee has surrendered.
