2 stone. They stopped the train for us 4 miles short of Molo & we [[strikethrough]] v [[/strikethrough]] encamped close to the line on Clutterbuck's Farm. Hope we have at last arrived in a game country. Our Kizii porters ran away last night without waiting for their wages so our porters had to carry extra weight to Lumbara.
[[underlined]] Dec 1. [[/underlined]]
Left camp before 7 am & searched all the country on the South Side of the line. Saw nothing but some Jackson's Hartebeest. We separated about 10 and I went to stalk some Hartebeest & what looked like Zebra, but which turned out to be Topi. I could not get nearer than half a mile owing to their position and a sentry they had placed a quarter of a mile away, so after 2 hours I showed myself & moved them over the hill. I followed as fast as I could and got a shot at a good Topi at 300 yards and a galloping one at 200 as I ran to cut them off. In each case the bullet appeared to graze the shoulder.
I fancy I must have overestimated distance. Very depressed. Got back to camp about 4. Found L had returned without getting a shot & went out again to try & get a Kongoni.
No signs of the Eland, Zebra etc we were promised to find.
