we appear to be following a streak of bad luck. L is not very fit. Awfully cold here at night & in early morning. We are 8.200 feet up but within 4 miles of the Equator.

As I was writing a note to the station Master at Molo, 5 Topi were reported coming over the hill towards camp. I seized a rifle & ran out and by 7.30 had killed the best of the party. We then started along the railway to call on a neighboring farmer called Drought about 3 miles away. When we had gone about a mile 3 Jackson's Hartebeest sud-denly appeared galloping straight towards us. We crouched down & I took his shot, killing a good beast. We then went and called on Drought. A very nice Farm, very well situated, with a garden full of flowers, plenty of cattle, sheep, fowls etc. If it had not been for the untidiness & dirtyness it would have been very nice indeed. Things grow wonderfully up here. We went off & tried to drive a herd of kongoni & Topi that were in an unapproach-able position. I had a galloping shot at 200 yds but failed to get one. I started off in pursuit, but
