hit him well somewhere near the shoulder. Round he capered for about a minute & over he went, shot as I thought through the heart. So I took no further notice of him & was watching C's & the others, when on looking round for him I saw him making off going very sick but quite strong & I never got another shot at him. C's mean[[strikethrough]]u[[/strikethrough]]while had collapsed alright.
We continued our way & hunted out some very likely looking dongas & places filled with good cover, but though we found where they had been lying up - it was a blank.
On the way back C shot a pretty good Grant & for the sake of meat I shot a Kongoni or rather attempted to for I lost him in exactly the same way as the wildebeest.
That is 5 wounded beasts I have lost already all shot with my .375, more than I lost in the whole of my last trip. It is primarily bad shooting of course, but hard luck as well and I hate [[strikethrough]] i [[/strikethrough]] to leave anything wounded out. I shall use my Manlicher in future & rely on my big gun to stop a lion if we ever find one. They are
