Another blank morning as far as the lions are concerned. They made a great row during the night, but we saw nothing of them this morning. C had an unsuccessful as well as uncomfortable night as the lions did not come back to their kill. I went down stream about 5 miles & then crossed the river & came back the other side. I had a difficult shot at a waterbuck but failed to get him. I shot a small duiker in some reeds, which I think is another new specimen. Soon after crossing, my boys spied a solitary bull oryx & I went for him. Naturally a lot of zebra were in the way & their stampeding frightened him off & put him on the alert. I could get no nearer than 300 yards & made some wild shooting, hitting him 5 times before I dropped him. I found my rifle had had a blow last night & the sight was broken. I have put a new one in, but I cannot shoot with it as yet. I daresay it is myself for the tremendous heat has knocked me out a little. I hope it is, for
