Sir,

In the month of April last, I [[strikethrough]] had the honour to [[/strikethrough]] received a printed copy of Your "Annals of Nature" for 1820. What had been transmitted to me as Secretary of the Columbian Institute. At the next meeting of that body I laid your paper before it: and, in compliance with a resolution to that effect I have now the honor to [[strikethrough?]] tender[[?]] [[/strikthrough]] present you the thanks of the Institute for your communication.

I avail myself of this occasion to assure you of  [[strikethrough]]the [[/strikethrough]] my high respect [[strikethrough]] which [[/strikethrough]] for your character; [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] sentiment which I participate in common with all [[strikethrough]] my [[/strikethrough]] our countrymen who have observed your zealous labours for the promotion of science in the U. States.
