Washington 1. June 1824.

Sir. 

I have received a Letter from D[[superscript]]r[[/superscript]]. William Thornton the Rev[[superscript]]d[[/superscript]]. Robert Little and M[[superscript]]r[[/superscript]] William Elliot the Committee appointed by the Institute, to solicit from Congress an extension of the Garden of the Institute, and also the use of a Room in the Capitol for the Meetings of the Institute, and as a place of deposit for its moveable Property and Records, informing me that the applications had been successful; that the Garden has been extended to the Creek west thereof, and bounded by the Avenues on each side. That the Room (N. 44) has also been granted for the purposes mentioned, and conformably to the request of the Committee, I take this liberty of suggesting to you the propriety of having the Room prepared, and the property of the Institute, collected and removed into it, before the next regular meeting of the Society; which will be held on Saturday next the 5[[superscript]]th[[/superscript]]. inst[[superscript]]h[[/superscript]].
