Saturday evening, Feb. 3, 1900.
This has been a quiet week. Miss Toole spent Sunday after church with us. Sunday morning the snow was about an inch deep, but by two o'clock it was all melted. I wrote letter to Rufus & Besse, Grant, Virginia Rider and Mr. Post. They have "small pox" at Mt. Clare W. Va. [[insert]] The [/insert]] Gen. Smith also old Sem [[Inoen?]] has it.
Monday it snowed. Ida and I walked to school, Lois rode with Mr. Cain, as he was going to the mill. We staid about half hour, and no one came so we came home and did not have any school. [[written in brackets]] coldest was that morning 21[[degree symbol]] above 0 [[/written in brackets]]
By evening it had quit snowing and it began to get colder. I has been cool all week. I rec'd letter from Maud Sanders Monday night.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday about the same I rec'd third lesson Wednesday. Rec'd letter from Stella Elliott Friday evening. I have tried to study today. I have my 4th lesson about finished. It is getting hard. Still it is interesting. "No excellence without great labor." I have studied late every night this week. I haven't taken "Rosiola" or French measles yet I must now go to bed. It is so late. My watch has not run since the day I lost

Saturday, Feb. 10, 1900.
Last Sunday I went to Wedgefield ^[[insert]] Baptist [[/insert]] Church. I haven't been to a Methodist Church since I left home. We ^[[insert]] Ida & I [[/insert]] stopped to see Mrs. Hamlon Ramsey's new boy. Ida, Scott and I went in Carriage. Mrs. R. is Ida's half sister! It rained very hard and we staid there for dinner. I was tired when we reached home about five.
School is going on as usual. The children came up to practice for the entertainment Tuesday P.M. Mr. Barkley brought Rutlege and Miss Sue Jackson brought Auley and Mary Koll. We are getting along very nicely with every thing so far. Lois has been neglecting her music. & I have come down on her and she is getting a move on her. She is a very modest little girl of eleven. It has been very cloudy all week. Wednesday Miss Till and I started out to make some calls on the Privateer people ^[[insert]] about [[2?]] miles away. [[/insert]] We drove "Mike" an old mule. He went so slow we did not get to where we started, but we called on Mrs. Marion Cain and Miss Lymans Thursday evening we tried it again. Mr Cain let me have his driving horse. We reached our journey's end and reached home safe, and had a pleasant evening. We call on Misses Meyers and Nettles. Friday evening I gave Ida a music lesson, and one today. I have been
