Great patches were like barnyards, well packed & tramped, but now the crust is very hard & the deer are leaving the yards & running cross lots thro the woods.
We saw several deer & finally one came running up toward us to about 100 feet. I set the camera & photographed it as it stood broadside, hesitating what to do. I told the men to look out, that something was after it, but Tom who insisted on keeping ahead said, no, it just jumped out from under a log. When it had gone we followed down the trail & soon came to the tracks of two wolves that had come after it at full speed till they saw us & turned off the trail.
