Slept like a top for about twelve hours. Dressed and went out to "Chocolat" and to the "Wiertz" or Moderne Musée. The Stevens looked well in the morning light that is some of them. Also a pastel and charcoal by Lehrmitte of two girls undressing beside a canal at twilight for a bath. Several things good but better of the same sort are done at home. Lunched & took a walk to the Palais Justice which is on a high part and overlooks most of the town. It was raining and the place looked like most any town over here in the rain. PM. in the old gallery. The Hals of the proff. with a book is fine and the little one also of man in a chair. There is some fine painting in the big head. Real true painting a la Velasq. The Jordeans to are beautifully done in fact wonderful painting in some of them.
Short walk around the town and bed.

This A.M. in old gallery and afterwards the new and at two went to lunch. Short walk and back to the old for another look. Like Rodin "Thinker" very much also the carytid which is a cast. Dont think these things of Meunier quite get there. Luxembourg ones are better.
Got one or two postal cards & sent Bement a few.
There is a very stunning Van Dycke here of a man in blue black against a small back ground of nice brown the landscape to the left, a sunset also [[seeming ?]] brown. A bit of armor lies at the feet to the left one hand pointing toward it. It's pretty fine. They are not long on Rembrands here. Rather swell Robusti in an oval frame of a fairly young man with a beard. Not wonderful in the Hals' way. Bought a couple of little Shakespeare Julius C. & Omlette.
