Coburn and I went to Ghent to see the exhibition which is held alternately in Bruxells Antwerp and Ghent. It was a fairly representative ex. of the Belgian school. Chase had a picture "The Japanese book" which together with Gay's little interior were about the best things in the show excepting one canvas of a woman on a green sofa against a window which showed a sunny mass of green trees outside. It was very charming indeed and had it been carried a little further, a corker.

Saw also a fine Zorn at the gallery there in Gent and a swell thing by a man named [[Anesson??]] woman in black, shawl on her knees a white deer hound and a grey background.

Got letter from Mother saying they had the case of paintings. One also from "Henri" with all the news of the corners in it. Took a walk. Family with three fine American girls came to the house today. When they came in the place looked brighter by 50 percent. Gallery this P.M. and tonight we three Dabo Sherwood and myself went to hear "La Vie de Bohemme" with good seats for a franc a piece. Good opera to.
