Spent the whole day in the Ryks Museum. And it was great. Saw Rembrandts Night Watch (so called) though it isn't the great portait of the men seated around the table, Elizabeth [[Bass ?]], portrait of his father young man, charming landscape and one or two others. Of Hals, the guitar player, drunken man, portrait of himself & wife. portrait of some Dutchman & also of his wife latter being very fine indeed.
There is also a portrait of the [[grand ?]] prince Balthazar of Spain much like a Velasquez though not attributed to him.
Some pretty things by Terburg [[Metger?]] and P de Hooch. Though I don't think [[Metger?]] is so well represented here as some other places. I think him perhaps the greatest of the Little Dutchmen. The Hals, the Yellow Drunkard has so great stuff in and is finer than most of his I have come across. Maybe I'll try & copy it. Night watch & the Cloth makers Guild are next door to Velasquez big ones if the two men can be compared.
