Padded the hoof all morning in the rain in the region of Alexanderstrasse making a few little Xmas investments. After grub walked home with Miss Warner and there changed my collar button and went to Niedermeyer's to a swell layout and Xmas tree and a house full of folks. Met a real smart man who had been in the U.S. for six years (didn't say where) and he says "you don't have any Xmas in America do you" which was kind of a knocker as I had just been telling about a real holiday at home. How horrible. But he talked so much of wreaths that we hang in the windows that I guess he'd never been behind them. N- gave me a life of Velasquez.

After grub I managed to escape and went to call at Frau Nagy's where I recieved some very pretty "geschenken" etc.

Letter from Harvey from Florence he is evidently highly pleased with everything but the Americans there.

[[preprinted]] Christmas Day. [[/preprinted]]

Christmas day. This A.M. I painted some and then to dinner, was a little late and as everybody was hogging it I made a sad looking finish when it came to turkey. Niedermeyer came around and we went to walk in the Thiergarten where all the white statues are. saw the house of parliament and Brandenburg Tour and all what was doing

It has been a very "triste" Xmas day almost raining dark and wet underfoot.

To his house after had chocolate etc and met some more people "zu hause" and washed brushes and then sat down to a meal by myself which wasn't exactly Christmas like but I had the meal and there is something in that.

I seem somehow to be quite alone tonight.
