dinner but I crossed the Spaarne. Found a beautiful new bank. Joined by Mrs Allender and Miss Burns. Rain - it chased the girls. I stayed and got a stormy sketch and a good wetting. Did the usual hang-around in the evening.

August 21

Rain, so Mrs Allender, Miss Burns and I went to Amsterdam. It cleared at once. Saw new things at the Ryks and old things anew. Good company-they did not impede. Lunched well and then saw the modern things after which the Stedelijk. In seeing pictures aright-just looking at the ones you want to see-the effect is not tiredness, even after this long day-but exhilaration. Met Mrs Wadsworth and Miss Rheinlander. Was glad I had letter written. After supper took fiddle back & went to the Leder with "Aesthetics". Much appreciation & fine time in that jolly party-so different

from our own broken-up crowd, songs & feed, gambling.

August 22

Saw Wadsworth's pictures etc. Then went to the bank and made sketch of mill-stone etc. Differed with Mrs Allender about sky. Touched up sketch after my undeserved boteran, and went to studio [[strikethrough]] s [[x strikethrough]] and museum; came home and started up the Spaarne where I did the queer with the black house as planned. Had a very pleasant walk with Wadsworth, Bloemendaal Ward [[?]] etc. and good talk.

August 23

Did not get up early to sketch as per plan; mental alarm clock out of order. Went up to write on club letter after reasonable delay. Slow work but some progress. After dinner, was taken for a drive by the Wadsworths with Miss Rheinlander, Bloemendaal, Spaarnedane etc. Fine ride, pictu-
