August 24

Alarm clock a dead failure. But I got started on a letter to Florida. Then went to station. For a wonder, was well "on time" & got earlier train to Amsterdam. Went to tea-shop I had noticed & looked over bail of Jap books & prints. Picked out some & hustled to the six. For a wonder, was (of) the first there. Delay. Mr. Chase & rest came. "Ten at a time." Grand Rembrandt (5); Potter; Vermeer (2), Leyster, Van de Velde, Minor ones; Stils, Terburg, Van Dyck, Rembrandt; great furnishings, spare room. Dore, Cstadt [[?]]; great. Went back to Van Veen's and got Hokusai! In love with it as soon as I had it. Home. Wrote. Mr Chase painted old man; music & reading and lots of them [[?]]; effect (?) Raffle-Miss McEwen. Hurrah! Mailed letter and cards.

In evening Miss Carson came. Not to be behind the Lederern, we got up a jollification. (Adverbs) charades, Mephisto, Mister Chase, agrearelle, goatee, metaphysician, [[?]]
Escorted Miss Carson home arm in arm; yells at Leder; no response-they put out the light. Home. Citroen.

August 25

Started for studio early. For once was there well before class, even before the model-none showed up. And I had a paper prepared even finally Jacob Ducrot was called in. Got well started Mr Chase said the shoulders should be equidistant from the head. Finished letter, hurried to crit. Mr Chase began before time to speak -  on things artistic. Fine showing and fine crits. Mine. Drawing-begun mistake of putting up eight things. The putten [[?]]. Harrod [[?]]
