After supper walked with Miss Rheinlander on deck and talked over plans. Concert. Took to my bed. Awful playing. Came out to see the Butcher Boy doing the Spanish song-and-dance in German. Read. A sail. Went up with Miss Burns. Then walked in lovely moonlight. Tough time with [[?]] in [[?]].

September 12

Wrote poetical letter for Miss Haight. On deck and read. Went above and visited, having been scared day before by signs and closed gates. Best record of miles so far - 383. (Story of rapid run in fog). The interminable meals. End of "R. R." Was reading R.L.S. on deck when Miss Haight came above for first time during voyage. Walked on deck with members of harem, fixed accounts, inquired about duties and read.

Dance on deck after supper. Hanging around for "Virginia Reel" which never came off. Mr. Hyde and Miss Burns came down. Talked and sang. Told again of solemn face and made break. Lunatics in saloon.

September 13.

21st wedding anniversary. Girls making souvenirs of Holland from postal cards; Miss Corson making her "Japanese print", Mrs. Cook (unwell) in steamer-chair. Read Robert Louis on hurricane-deck. Warm sun, but breeze. Lunch. Lay down in bunk and then went up to smoking room and tried to write Mrs. Allender's letter. Got it addressed, when it was dinner-time. Mr. Fairlamb played in saloon - nicely. Went above and talked with Mrs. Langmuir and [[?]] "That red hot cannonball, the sun" sank into the sea. Went to own deck. Harem there; watched grand golden
