Carriage was at the door at seven o'clock. Said good bye to Tete and Father Alf and I went down together. The pleasant park, and the handsome Fifth Avenue houses. Reached 935 Broadway where Father and Alf left me. George Murray said good-bye and I went on to Fourteenth St. Ferry, crossed and drove to Holland-America dock. Got stuff aboard, and took up (8.20 a.m.) position at 1st cabin gangway with green "C.C. in E." on my hat. Few opportunities to be of use. A little before 10 am Father Mother and Alf came with Mrs. Hauser who most kindly brought fruit and candy in Eric's name, then left. The folks saw my cabin and then a first class cabin. Good-byes and leave taking among the last. Crowds on dock. Our folks were at end. Saw Alf's gray hat

till the Rotterdam swung in the way. Watched a little while, then went below and wrote home, to Dr. Hunt and to Professor Werner. Alas, and to my shame the pilot was just off when I got upstairs. Felt bad. Met Professor Dean. He is going on a tour. Looked for classmates without success. At my right, at table is Mr. Felix [[Krüsther?]] Notary Public, there are four French girls, two other ladies and the "figure typique." Gossip that he is a very rich car-man. Sea like a lake. [[strikethrough]]Sky[[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] Air [[/insertion]] like a bell. [[insertion]] Saw whale spout.[[/insertion]] People do not promise to be as interesting as last year. Grub as good, though. * Smoked and felt fine. After supper, found Miss Herr and Miss Fassit and had a most pleasant talk. * Letter from Mrs. Allender (drawing), and one from Miss Carson with Cseller's. Met Miss Williamson and Mr. Webster and talked, wonderful night.
