June 15

Woke early, and at half-past six was started out by bath room steward boy. Salt water douche. Early breakfast, good. Smoked and loafed. Showed "Jugend" to upstairs girls. Left checks with purser and got information about visiting privileges. There are none. Wrote diary, started "L'Oeuvre" & talked Messers Williams and Mak. Lunch & dinner. Amiability of Mr. Drünsther. Ladies not quite well. Met Miss Poteat. Changing skills. Whales seen again - afar. Read. After supper went up and had nice time. Talk of various teachers. Met Miss Miller.

June 16.

Salt water douche, breakfast. Did not smoke. Met Misses Poteat, Leach and others. General walkaround but nothing doing in the way of work. Tried water color but of course some one came & told of his friend.

Loafed and read "L'Oeuvre", but did not progress much because of foolish tendency to sleep. The ubiquity of food. Visited upstairs - always a pleasure. Light on the water. Showed Hokusai, to appreciation. Sick girls after supper. Small use trying to be of any. Boven weder.

June 17.
Dressed à l'Hollandais. Fruit on deck. Met Prof. Elmer of Williams and talked. Taught chess, smoked & read (a little.) Whales again - yesterday were near. Talked with our two Carolinians. After dinner, met Miss Aspinwall. Tried to draw. Found the girls on the hurricane deck behind boat. Nice chin. They asked me to sing! Plenty of fine Phosphorescent foam at bow. The doctor. Late.
