Dressed dead slow. Letter from Don Whiteside. Wrote one home and got off to the Heath. Saw Misses Herr and Fassitt. Sketched tree and distance. Onlookers; two more persistent than others began to talk, turned out to be Sidney Hallowes - exhibitor at R.A. and brother. Most cordial. Brother came running back thinking gentleman might like to see 150 yr. old English garden. He did - great. Gladstone's retreat, R.A. pictures. Brother quoted Browning, invited to call. Hastened home, and to studio painted from girl. Not altogether awful but I scraped. Home with Schamberg. Fixed up thumb box, after supper, then took Hokusai to Miss Herr. The folks there. Nice evening. Message from Miss Corson.

Then Hanfstaengel's. Got repros. and showed M.M.A.'s - got order. Then lunch. Then N.G. Soaked up a little Italian spirit. Met by Mr. Townsley, talk. Venetians, Veronese. Flemings and Germans. Spaniards. The divine Velasquez. Home on bus, writing kata-kana - better. Sketched pipe etc in thumb-box - not too awful. After supper, a Whistler in a lane.
