July 15.
Got up before breakfast and sketched in vacant lot - tolerable. Cleaned up and went to R.A. Not many new impressions. Went from Sargent to Sargent. "Mrs. Wertheimer & "Lady in Brown". Furse's two daisies - "Lady in Purple". Saw Mr. Hallowe's picture, well above average, serious, much strength but weighted down by his school.
Lunched and looked for book-shops. Went to studio. Painted from old lady - productions still pretty middling awful in this line. Schamberg always blows off to a fat Egyptian after supper.

Walked (all four) to Swiss Cottage station and had a good hour's ride out through beatiful English country - green; turned at Swan with Two Nicks, and came home. Warm. Miss Herr stayed to lunch which was nice, talked - music; then we went to Kensington. Had glimpe of wonders

"beatiful" should of course be "beautiful" but I left it as written.
