at the Shilstones. The following people were their guests Miss Barnes (?) English - visiting Mrs Williamson, an American & some relative of Mr Bailey a nice old gentleman, Mr Bailey (no relationship) a Barbadian, one time secretary of Gov. Robertson; Dick & I.
We had a most delightful dinner. Soup was the best I've tasted any where in the West Indies. The duck, on which Mr Shilstone competed with Mr Curtis, was excellent, only there were two of them, so his excellence in carving did not show up as well. However, 7 plates were served off the first duck. I also enjoyed the Madeira wine. It is an insult to such good wine to gulp down cocktails or whiskey & soda in the same meal with it. All in all the evening was a most pleasant one.

We were too tired to go out this morning. We only went down to the Aquatic Club where I got "Roaming Thru the West Indies" by Harry A. Franck and "Going Abroad" by Rose Macaulay 1934. The first book will be nice to read again now that I've [[strikethrough]] me [[/strikethrough]] been to some of the places I read about in Washington.

Mr Jester gave us lists of advice such as hints on signing the book at Government House and the like. Most of it was interesting & instructive, but I doubt whether we shall follow all of his instructions to the letter. It always seems a little hard to convince people that we do not want our time taken up with social engagements. Even Mr Jester seems to take the attitude that because Dick is connected with Smithsonian we are of necessity ambassadors at large.

Out to the country again. We went out along Route 2 and 2A. Our first stop was Whitehall, St Michael where we worked a very profitable pond. The pond was simply teeming with frogs
