as their funds were getting low, but her husband doesnt want to come as he has taken out his first citizenship papers and his absence from the U.S. might make a difference in the final date when he gets his papers. 
At dinner the cat - Oscar Wilde - and dog - Spot - entertained us with an amateur bout of about 15 rounds. I wish I had a motion picture camera so I could record the way they play together. It is one of the most amusing things I've ever seen.

[[underlined]] Sunday May 10, 1936 [[/underlined]]  Today is Mother's day, altho' we didn't realize it until it was too late to do anything. 
As I felt real ambitious I cut out the dress material which Miss du B had given me. It is a lovely shade of what I call Madonna blue. I made my own paper pattern from my blue polka dot dress. I think it should be rather nice. 
When it came time to sew up the blouse Dick came out & read to me so that I was amused while I worked. We are still reading Pontifex Son & Thorndyke". I think the author has repeated and padded more than is necessary, but the story is good.

brought a newspaper which announced that Haile Selassie was in flight and Adis Ababa was being looted by the Ethiopians.
I forgot to mention that last night they phoned from Soufrière house to say that there was mail for us. Dick went down on his motor for it. My letters were 2 from Dad in which he told about breaking a bone in his hand. The one from mother told in more detail about the attempted hold up of their car when they were going to the mine.
The following information on the shipment of gold was contained in one of the letters.
We ship it parcel post to the Crocker First National Bank, in S.F. They take it to the mint and receive pay in paper notes. To get it out of the Philippines we must sign declarations that the gold & silver was mined since the April 24, 1935 Proclamation, and was produced out of ground under U.S. flag. It costs 1 peso (50 cents) per lb postage and we insure it with a private insurance Company (not U.S. Insurance).
