We anchored at Roseau about 2 o'clock and it wasnt long before we were ashore. It was a very hot day. We went direct to the customs where we were not passed thru' as rapidly as usual.
Then we set out to look at places to stay. First we went to Mrs Musgraves-recommended by Miss Lockhart-but I didnt think much of it as it was untidy and fronted right on the street. Her best price was $45 each. Our second try was Lady Nichol's which was vey much nicer but much more expensive. Her lowest price was $25 a week for the two of us. Mr & Mrs Drury, friends of the Crains, and American artists were with her, going out on the "Nerissa". We would have had to wait until they vacated the room.
Somewhat "regusted" we turned back to the town where we thought we'd look at Cherry Lodge & Hotel de [[strikethrough]] l [[/strikethrough]] Paz. The proprietress was ill but her husband Mr Tavernier came up from his office & made arrangements with us. We have 2 rooms-not quite as large

Dick went down at once to get the baggage and said not to expect him home at once. However, he came back very shortly, even before I had finished conversing with Mr Tavernier about the wild life etc. of Dominica. We spent most of the afternoon getting settled.
The evening we had a chance to enjoy our radio once again altho' our reception from the U.S. is not good until about 8 in the evening. The summer weather probably has a lot to do with it.
For dinner to-night I had crapaud (frog) fricasee. It wasn't so very tasty and I thought it a little tough. Apart from these things it was fairly good.

I got the laundry ready to send out. Then I started unpacking. This and writing in my journal took most of the morning. Dick went to get his licenses etc. but came home very soon without
