all the traffic will bear. What a jolt she will get if that is her idea!
We got the news in the evening, but it came in very feebly. The news about the Black Legion in Michigan sounded very interesting, if we could only know more than just a smattering about it.

Mr Baynes, who [[strikethrough]] m [[/strikethrough]] I understand is related to Mr Baynes Admin. of St Lucia, gave the children a holiday to-day. He is acting administrator in the absence of Mr Popham, who is in England on leave. As a result many people just acted as if this was a continuance of the holiday.
I went to the P.O. to mail a letter & get a money order for 7/6 to send to England, for 1000 Br. Col. stamps. I also inquired about boys who collect stamps and Mr Philipps of the Variety store telephoned one who said he'd call later in the morning.
I had just reached home when he came. He brought quite a number of stamps with him and as there were many of them which we wanted we made a pretty advantageous deal with him. Furthermore, he seemed well pleased too, so we can very likely do further business with him.

The news of our buying stamps seemed to go out, as before lunch another boy appeared and we bought some from him. This latter boy had a good assortment of Guadeloupe stamps.
We fiddled with stamps most of the afternoon and about 4:30 we walked down to the waterfront to see if the boat bearing - we hope - our hinges, microscope, and stockings was arriving. It looked very doubtful.
After dinner Mr Tavernier had a man test our radio to see how many watts it took. Seventy-five was the number, and that would not account for the rapid increase in k.w. hrs consumed since our arrival. He would have to look elsewhere and I have a feeling that Mr Tavernier is not exactly satisfied if the increase cannot be charged to the radio. They have a special radio rate of $1.50 a month with a special wire etc. We may have to use this in order to be on the safe side. They pay 30 cents a unit here which is a k.w. hr. I don't care to have any repetition of what happened in Barbados - if it can (as it should) be avoided.
