seems to me a crazy to [[torn piece inserted]] to [[sto?]] [[/torn insert]] make more soldiers and arm the [[o?]] and especially to [[underlined]] draft [[/underlined]] more, for what is to keep them from going over to the "revolution?" There wouldn't be any revolution if it wasn't for the soldiers. What I hear particularly complained of is that the "soldiers shoot without orders." Yet the government goes on making soldiers. Out in this "cow country" I have seen the first big poster of Vargas. In hotel Colombo beside the familiar Prestes poster is one showing Vargas on horseback in characteristic high boots, belt, slouch hat, etc with droves of cattle in the distance, with simply "Getulio Vargas for president of the republic."
It seems a long time to wait for letters
till I get back to São Paulo about March 1 or so. I hope I shall have several from you then. [[torn piece insert]] [[margin, vertical line in blue pencil]] [[I ire?]] you got my Caparaó letters you learned [[go?]] the tubers on your Olyra Sampaioana [[/margin, vertical line in blue pencil]] - the specimens must be there before this. I hope you are feeling well and strong by this time and that you are having a happy time naming up your African grasses. Stapf's keys are terrible to work especially to Andropogoneae. Best wishes, to you and our
grass staff, AC

Two torn pieces have been re-inserted into the page, possibly out of alignment, as the words do not gell. Bottom edge is worn, losing some text.
